BCCI invites applications for chief coach of India Women's team

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a call for applications for the position of senior women’s team head coach on Tuesday, May 2. Since Ramesh Powar was transferred to the National Cricket Academy in December of 2022, the position has been vacant.

According to the notice issued by the Cricket Board, applicants must have represented India or another country at the international level, or have a minimum NCA level ‘C’ coaching certificate or a similar certificate from a reputable organization, along with a minimum of 50 first-class games.

Candidates who have coached an international team for a minimum of one season or a T20 franchise for a minimum of two seasons are also eligible to apply.

BCCI has not specified an age requirement; however, candidates older than 60 are not considered for selection due to BCCI’s policy. The position will be based in Mumbai, and the candidate will be responsible for establishing a cricket coaching program.

The application deadline for the position is May 10. Following the closing date, the Cricket Advisory Committee, under the direction of Ashok Malhotra, will conduct interviews with the shortlisted candidates in accordance with the BCCI constitution.

BCCI will designate the head coach until the 2025 ODI World Cup.

The coaching crew of the Indian women’s cricket team has undergone several changes over the past few years. Due to Powar’s transfer to the NCA, the team under Harmanpreet Kaur entered the T20 World Cup in South Africa without a head coach.

In the next two years, the Women in Blue will compete in two significant ICC tournaments: the T20 World Cup in 2024 and the ODI World Cup in 2025. The BCCI is therefore eager to hire a long-term chief coach for the team.

The board did not specify the length of the head coach’s contract in the notice. According to a report in SportStar, the BCCI is seeking to hire a head coach at least until the 2025 ODI World Cup in India.
