Reports: BCCI assigns three-member team for Jasprit Bumrah's quick recovery

The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has stepped up its attempts to guarantee the availability of India’s top pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, as the exciting ICC Champions Trophy 2025 approaches. His recuperation would be supervised by a committed three-person team at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Bumrah is still recovering from a back ailment he suffered during the Sydney Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year.

Given his vital role in the bowling assault, the 31-year-old’s injury concerns have been a significant setback for Team India. The speedster hasn’t participated in a game since January, when a stress response in his back caused him to take a break.

The BCCI is seeking to expedite his return in time for the prestigious competition, but they are also exercising caution because to his history of back ailments.

Bumrah reportedly just finished a five-week unloading phase during which he was counselled to take a vacation from working out at the gym and to rest completely. At the CoE, he is currently undergoing rehabilitation, and a dedicated team has been put in place to keep an eye on his development.

Bumrah’s rehabilitation is presently being worked on by Strength and Conditioning (S&C) coach Rajnikanth Sivagnanam and physiotherapist Thulasi Ram Yuvraj, with Dr. Nitin Patel, Head of Sports Science, personally overseeing the entire procedure. Naturally, physio Kamlesh Jain and national team S&C coach Soham Desai are also kept informed,” a BCCI insider told News18.

The Champions Trophy final squad submission is due on February 11.

One strength-and-conditioning coach, one physiotherapist, and a specialist coach to supervise skill-based rehabilitation components are all part of the CoE’s organised recovery program. When Bumrah returns to bowling, fast-bowling coach Troy Cooley is anticipated to take over, while Soham Desai remains with the Indian squad for the current home series against England.

Dr. Patel will present the final medical report on Bumrah’s fitness to Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar and BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia. Before a decision is taken, skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir will also be updated. Bumrah’s recuperation has become crucial because the Champions Trophy 2025 final squad submissions are due on February 11. The Men in Blue may choose to replace the pacer if he is still doubtful, and Harshit Rana is the leading candidate.

The selectors may decide to keep him in the squad and, if needed, obtain ICC consent for a late replacement if they think he can recuperate in time for the tournament’s final stages. On February 20, Rohit and C0 will play Bangladesh to start their Champions Trophy campaign. On February 23, they will play Pakistan, and on March 2, they will play New Zealand.
