The majority of the members who will attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are well-known, with the exception of regular names like Sourav Ganguly (CAB), Jaydev Shah (Saurashtra), Arun Singh Dhumal (HPCA), and Rajeev Shukla (UPCA).
Naturally, among the select group of state representatives for the general body conference, Harbhajan Singh stands out as a sort of anomaly. He will attend the AGM on behalf of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), as previously reported, which has sparked a lot of conjecture on his chances of winning the top BCCI position.
Although the former India spinner, who participated in 103 Test matches, has not disclosed his plans, many close to him believe that his nomination is related to his friendship with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and that there is no reason to doubt it.
However, his closeness with the chief minister of Punjab is unlikely to be the end of the matter. There is undoubtedly more to it. The other participants with national or international playing experience are Jaydev Shah, Raghuram Bhatt (Karnataka), and Mithun Minhas (JKCA), in addition to Harbhajan and his former India captain Ganguly.
The Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) has nominated Rohan Jaitley, son of the late Arun Jaitley, a long-time BCCI mainstay and a dominant figure in Delhi cricket. He is regarded as a powerful figure in the BCCI community.
Anirudh Chaudhary, a former treasurer of the BCCI, will play for the Haryana Cricket Association (HCA).
Since only those representatives are eligible to run in the election on September 28, it is crucial to be nominated by the appropriate state associations. President, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer will all be up for election, and it is quite likely that Assam’s Devajit Saikia, Chhattisgarh’s Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, and Goa’s Rohan Dessa will remain in their roles. Given that Roger Binny is already older than 70, the key question is who will be the next president.
Mahanaaryaman Rao Scindia, Scindia’s son and the recently elected president, has been named by the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA). Other prominent figures include Anil Patel (Gujarat), P Damodaran (Pondicherry), Rohit Pawar (Maharashtra), and Sanjay Naik (Mumbai).
“The names of every Representative received from the Full Members of the BCCI through correspondence sent by them are listed in the following Draft Electoral Roll. In his note to the state associations, BCCI electoral officer AK Joti stated, “The names have been listed following verification of the completeness of the records as specified in paragraph 3 of the Electoral Officer’s Notice of Election Schedule and Call for Eligible Members to file applications to nominate their Respective Representative dated 06th September, 2025.”
