According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the International Cricket Council (ICC) has indicated that it is eager to collaborate closely with the board in order to guarantee Bangladesh’s complete and continuous participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to start in India and Sri Lanka on February 7.
After talks with the ICC the night before, the BCB released the statement on Wednesday, January 7. According to reports, the main topics of discussion were Bangladesh’s refusal to play their group-stage matches in India because of security concerns and the potential for fixture relocation. The statement did not, however, clarify if Bangladesh would eventually play their games in India.
“The International Cricket Council (ICC) has responded to the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) concerns regarding the safety and security of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team in India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, including the request for relocation of the team’s matches,” the BCB stated, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
“In its statement, the ICC reaffirmed its dedication to guaranteeing the Bangladeshi team’s complete and continuous participation in the competition. The ICC has expressed its readiness to collaborate closely with the BCB to resolve the issues brought up, and it has promised that the Board’s suggestions would be accepted and appropriately taken into account as part of the event’s comprehensive security strategy,” the statement continued.
The ICC had previously denied the BCB’s plea to move Bangladesh’s games, allegedly threatening to deprive the team of points if they didn’t play in India. Bangladesh, who are in Group C, will play their first three games in Kolkata on February 7, against the West Indies; Italy on February 9; and England on February 14. On February 17, they will play Nepal in Mumbai to wrap up their group stage.
Bangladesh would be eliminated from the competition if any points were forfeited, and it is understood that the ICC would not select a new squad in such a case. The BCB, however, has refuted allegations that the ICC sent out such an order.
The BCB has also noted some stories that have appeared in some media outlets, indicating that the Board has received an ultimatum in this respect. Such statements, according to the BCB, are wholly untrue, baseless, and do not accurately represent the form or content of the correspondence that was received from the ICC, the BCB declared.
“To find a friendly and workable solution that guarantees the team’s successful and seamless participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, the Board will continue to communicate constructively and professionally with the ICC and other event authorities. The safety, security, and welfare of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team continue to be the top priorities for the Bangladesh Cricket Board,” the statement continued.According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the International Cricket Council (ICC) has indicated that it is eager to collaborate closely with the board in order to guarantee Bangladesh’s complete and continuous participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to start in India and Sri Lanka on February 7.
