Fast bowler Jahanara Alam allegedly physically abused current national women’s team captain Nigar Sultana, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has stated that it “strongly refutes” them.
Alam, who hasn’t participated in international cricket since December 2024, said in an interview with the Bangladeshi publication Kaler Kantho that Sultana “beat up” her teammates.
“The BCB categorically and strongly refutes these allegations, which are baseless, fabricated, and devoid of any truth,” the board published a statement. At a time when the Bangladesh Women’s Team is demonstrating admirable growth and solidarity on the global scene, the Board regrets that such disparaging and scandalous statements have been made.
“The Board thinks that the timing and content of these remarks are intentional, malign, and appear to be intended to discredit a squad that still proudly represents the nation. The decision to make such false claims in public by someone who is currently unrelated to or uninvolved with Bangladesh cricket’s plans is really disheartening.
“I want to be clear that the BCB has total faith and confidence in the management, players, and leadership of the Women’s National Team.
The Board is fully in favor of the team and its members and has not discovered any evidence to back up any of the statements made.
Bangladesh placed seventh out of eight teams at the recent Women’s World Cup, which was held in Sri Lanka and India. They were closely contested in England, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, with their lone triumph coming against Pakistan.
