Aminul Islam Bulbul, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), stated on Friday that the BCB’s position is unchanged and that the board has not heard back from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding its concerns about playing matches in India for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Citing security concerns, Bangladesh has indicated reluctance to travel to India for the tournament, which is set to start on February 7. Instead, they have asked that their matches be moved to co-host Sri Lanka. Following reports of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, the BCCI ordered the release of Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders for unknown reasons, which increased the BCB’s concerns.
Bulbul claimed that the board had made its stance known to the ICC and stressed that moving games to another location in India would not allay their worries.
“The ICC has not yet responded to us. All of the attachments and evidence of our concern have been submitted. Ultimately, any alternative Indian location qualifies as an Indian location. You are all aware that we must follow the government’s orders and that no choice may be made unilaterally. “We are standing where we were a few days ago,” Bulbul stated, according to NDTV Sports.
The head of the BCB stated that before making any more decisions, the board would await the ICC’s reaction.
Three of Bangladesh’s group games are set to take place in Kolkata, and one will take place in Mumbai. Bulbul added that he was not aware of any information indicating Chennai and Hyderabad as potential substitute locations.
“Until the ICC responds, I am unable to comment on what we will do if we are prohibited from playing in Sri Lanka. Chennai and Hyderabad as substitute locations are unknown to me. We may find out on Monday or Tuesday,” Bulbul remarked.
Bulbul expressed faith in the national team, stating that Bangladesh has the talent to succeed, particularly under subcontinental circumstances. In response to the recent controversy surrounding Tamim Iqbal, he said that a BCB director’s public denunciation of the senior cricket player as a traitor was a personal view and that he has asked the concerned official for an explanation.
“In my opinion, Bangladesh is a formidable squad in international cricket. We have participated in the Champions Trophy semifinals and the 2015 ODI World Cup quarterfinals, and we have a strong possibility of performing well in subcontinental conditions. It was the director’s own opinion, and I have asked him to explain. When voicing his opinion in public, Tamim ought to have remembered how much he has accomplished,” Bulbul stated.
