Steve Smith, a member of the Sydney Sixers, scored a century off 58 balls in his Big Bash League (BBL) comeback match against the Perth Scorchers on Saturday, January 11. It was one of his finest runs in the shortest format. At the legendary Sydney Cricket Ground, his amazing stroke play enthralled the spectators.
After the Perth Scorchers won the toss and decided to bowl first, the Sydney Sixers lost Josh Philippe, their opener, early. His fellow opener, Smith, struggled in the opening half of his innings but persisted in the middle of his innings instead of surrendering his wicket. The former Australian captain started to middle a lot more deliveries as a result of this change.
Kurtis Patterson exited for 12 in the eighth over, and Smith was joined in the middle by captain Moises Henriques. Smith did most of the effort as they put together a partnership of 113 off 57 balls. Sydney promoted Ben Dwarshuis after Henriques left for a 46 off 28 balls in the 17th over. Off seven balls, the dynamic player scored an unblemished 23. The hometown hero, however, was the star of the show.
Steve Smith reached his third BBL century off just 58 balls after clipping a drive off-stump from Jhye Richardson for a single in the 19th over.
Jason Behrendorff was given the task of bowling the last over for the Scorchers. However, Smith blasted the first two balls out of the park although he was under a lot of pressure. The right-handed batter smacked the next ball for a six, but he failed to connect off the third. Sydney finished at 220/3 in their 20 overs, including 22 runs from the last over. Smith finished undefeated with a score of 121 from 64 balls, which included seven sixes and ten fours.
Ashton Turner of Perth scored 66 not out from 32 balls in the rebuttal, but they ultimately fell 14 runs short of Sydney’s total. Sean Abbott, who finished with statistics of 4/43 in four overs, was the best bowler.
