For the balance of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023–24, Aaron Hardie, a young all-round player, will captain the Perth Scorchers. Josh Inglis, a batsman and wicketkeeper, will be the 24-year-old’s deputy.
After Ashton Turner, the normal captain of the Scorchers, sustained an injury that kept him out of action for the whole season, Hardie was appointed. On December 20, in Perth, during the BBL match against the Hobart Hurricanes, Turner sustained a meniscus tear in his right knee and felt discomfort.
“One of our greatest assets is that we feel at ease applying our experience and expertise to improve the team as a whole. “To give us the best chance of winning another title, I’m sure the entire squad will remain focused and united,” Hardie remarked.
Aaron Hardie, who debuted for Australia in white-ball this season, just finished a game-winning knockout against the Hurricanes. The 24-year-old struck an undefeated 85 off just 45 deliveries while attempting to reach a score of 173. Furthermore, it appeared that the all-round player was eager to take on the new challenge.

According to head coach Adam Voges, the Perth Scorchers will definitely miss Ashton Turner for the remainder of the BBL season. But he did say this would be a terrific chance for Hardie to demonstrate his leadership abilities.
“While it is obviously upsetting to lose AT, Aaron has an opportunity to show off his leadership abilities during the tournament because of his injury. We have always thought of Aaron as a promising leader. Voges was cited by the Scorchers as saying, “He has participated in leadership programs offered by the WA and Perth Scorchers and is undoubtedly trusted by his teammates, both on and off the field.”
