For the forthcoming BBL season, Ian Bell, a former England batter, has joined the Melbourne Renegades as an assistant coach, working with head coach David Saker. His coaching abilities increased even more after serving as an assistant with the Hobart Hurricanes under Adam Griffith the previous season. James Rosengarten, general manager of the Renegades, praised Bell’s arrival as a big addition and predicted that he would have a big impact on the dynamics and output of the squad.
Ian Bell has coached for the England Under-19s, Derbyshire, Birmingham Phoenix, Chennai Braves in the Abu Dhabi T10, and most recently, New Zealand ahead of the ODI World Cup. He has playing experience and joined the Perth Scorchers in their 2016–17 BBL championship. His previous working relationship with Saker from their England days brings a well-known and experienced dynamic to their Melbourne Renegades coaching tandem.

Coach Ian Bell strengthens the Melbourne Renegades staff
At Renegades, the 41-year-old becomes a part of an experienced team and establishes a rapport with former Ashes opponents Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon. Legends like Shaun Marsh, Aaron Finch, and Kane Richardson are on the team, which adds to their depth of experience. He also knows international players Quinton de Kock, Joe Clarke, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, which strengthens his relationship with the team’s wide range of talent.
With the arrival of the Warwickshire-born player, Saker has led the Melbourne Renegades for three seasons in a row as head coach. The coaching lineup for BBL 13 is completed by Matthew Gale, a former Renegades paceman and Cricket Victoria representative, and veteran Victorian batsman Lloyd Mash. With this last component in place, the team’s coaching system seems to be strengthened in preparation for the forthcoming season.
