‘Pakistan is damaging his confidence'- Basit Ali urges PCB to rest Babar Azam

Babar Azam, the outstanding batsman and former captain of Pakistan, has made headlines due to his inconsistent performance in Test cricket. In order to preserve Babar’s confidence and give him time to recover, veteran cricket player Basit Ali has called for him to be rested during the current series against the West Indies.

In the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), Pakistan’s Test campaign against the West Indies has already lost importance. Pakistan’s series against the Windies is pointless because South Africa and Australia have already guaranteed their places in the WTC final. But with a 127-run victory in the first Test in Multan, the home team got off to a great start. Babar Azam struggled on a difficult track, scoring only 8 and 5 in the two innings, even though the team won.

Babar hasn’t played well in red-ball cricket lately. During Pakistan’s tour of South Africa, he found his groove again after failing to reach a half-century since the beginning of 2023. He scored three fifties in four ODI innings.

His difficulties at home, meanwhile, have raised questions, particularly in light of his lackluster showing against the West Indies in the first Test match. Citing the detrimental effects of Babar’s ongoing struggles in challenging circumstances, Ali urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to think about resting him for the second Test.

Babar Azam has just rediscovered his rhythm, and Pakistan is undermining his confidence.

It would be prudent to rest him because Pakistan will not go to the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Make better pitches if you want to keep him in the starting lineup. The players’ confidence may be severely damaged if the pitch is like the first Test. Basit Ali, a former player, stated on his YouTube channel that Babar struggled in the first Test but recovered his form in South Africa, scoring runs in both ODIs and Tests.

Batters from both sides faced difficulties due to the Multan pitch’s considerable spin and irregular bounce. Sajid Khan and Noman Ali, two of Pakistan’s spinners, took advantage of the circumstances.
