An official from the Bangladesh Cricket Board stated that because both sides want to get ready for the next Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, they have opted to play exclusively Twenty20 Internationals instead of ODIs during their upcoming tour of Pakistan.
In 2025, India will host the Asia Cup, and in 2026, India and Sri Lanka will host the next ICC T20 World Cup.
As countries prepare for the World Cup, the Asia Cup, which is set for September in India, will also be played in the T20 format.
In order to prepare for the international event, both boards have chosen to play a five-match T20I series in place of Bangladesh’s May tour of Pakistan, which was originally planned to include three ODIs and as many T20Is under the FTP.
Additionally, at the recently finished Champions Trophy, the two board presidents met to discuss their future plans and decided to play the series, which is not included in the Future Tour Program, against Bangladesh in a three-match Twenty20 International in July.
“We have decided to play T20Is instead of ODIs in the upcoming tour of Pakistan as we are planning to start our preparation for the next T20 World Cup as well as Asia Cup through that series,” a BCB spokesperson told Cricbuzz.
“When Pakistan will travel to Bangladesh they are scheduled to play three T20Is,” he stated.
Just prior to Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies, the official urged that the games be held in Dhaka on July 20, 22, and 24.
