After the Indian batting icon scored yet another international hundred during their match on October 19 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune, Bangladesh technical consultant Sridharan Sriram advised his countrymen to take notes from Virat Kohli on how to create an innings.
To help the home team defeat the tourists by a comfortable seven wickets, Kohli played a masterful innings in which, for the most part, he played havoc with the bowling attack.
Before, Bangladesh had a strong start thanks to Liton Kumar Das (66) and Tanzid Tamim (51), who piled up 93 runs in 14.4 overs to set the stage for a large total, but it was in vain because the other batsmen were unable to take advantage of it.
After Tanzid was dismissed, Bangladesh lost their composure and quickly lost the wickets of Shanto (eight), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (three), and Liton, falling to 137-4 in the 28th over.
After the game, Liton Kumar Das’ interim ODI captain Najmul Hossain accused him of throwing away his wicket since he believed it affected the game’s outcome.
Sriram asked his team to take a cue from Kohli on how to structure and pace an ODI inning.
It was excellent, wasn’t it? When asked to assess Kohli’s inning, Sriram told Bangladesh’s broadcast right holder GTV that he was “too professional.” “Really like he didn’t hit a single ball in the air until he reached around 70/80 runs, and it is a great lesson that our boys can learn from like have intent, run hard between the wickets and hits (between) gaps, and I think he was too professional,” Sriram said.
Despite his disappointment with the batting unit’s performance, Sriram noted that he still has faith in their ability to perform well in the team’s final five games.
The technical advisor described the batting unit’s performance as “definitely disappointing.”
He continued, “I think the World Cup is a long tournament and every loss affects you, but it is about finding ways to keep going, finding ways to get up, and focusing on the next game.
“I don’t think anything is wrong (in the batting) it is just about people who need to get a score and boys are aware about that,” he stated.
“Both Tamim and Liton will be disappointed because they had control of the game at the point of time 15 overs 93 and the game was very much in Bangladesh’s control and then lose those wickets which is quite disappointing,” he stated.
