As Bangladesh gets ready for the next T20 Asia Cup, which starts on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates, world-renowned power-hitting coach Julian Wood is expected to join the team in August to assist them expand their stroke repertoire.
At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh’s national cricket players, who are on a vacation after finishing a demanding schedule, will begin their Asia Cup preparation camp on August 6.
Wood, who is credited for revolutionising England’s white-ball team by implementing power-hitting techniques, is anticipated to arrive prior to the August start of the camp and will serve as the players’ three-week coach.
According to a senior BCB official, “We are hoping that he will arrive before the start of camp scheduled ahead of the Asia Cup,” Cricbuzz said Thursday.
The similar attitude was expressed to this website by Julian Wood, who coached the Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League while working with Bangladeshi cricket players.
Yes, I am speaking with Phil Simmons‘ character, Simmo. In essence, I spend three weeks in August there. I’ve heard that, but it hasn’t been verified yet. But the likelihood is high. “Clearly, you spoke with BCB,” Wood remarked.
“Yes, we will arrive in Dhaka before the Asia Cup in August. I guess it relies on them (BCB), so I’m not sure (after the Asia Cup),” he remarked.
“There is a lot of skill there, which is, in my opinion, the key. Their talent has always been there. Striking the ball is undoubtedly a key component of white ball cricket these days,” he stated.
“It (my job) will be to give them information and the key thing is how to use their power, how to generate their power and use that power more efficiently,” he stated.
“I have history there, so I’m really looking forward to these three weeks. And they have been discussing this for some time,” he added.
“I believe that they have been discussing this for the past three or four years. “I’m happy that it’s happening now, even though nothing really happened,” he continued.
To assist the cricket players with the mental aspect of the game, a BCB official stated that they are considering hiring a sports psychologist in addition to a power-hitting coach.
“We are hoping to bring a sports psychologist and along with them we are eyeing to include some local psychologist so that they can learn from him as well as help our cricketers with the language as it can be a barrier,” stated the official.
It is believed that David Scott, a former employee of Bangladesh’s High Performance Unit, will take over as sports psychologist.
In addition to being a sport psychology consultant for numerous teams and organisations, Scott has worked as a consultant for numerous government agencies and commercial businesses. He also lectures and does research in the fields of sport, fitness, and psychology.
As a prelude to this year’s Asia Cup, which is set for September, a BCB official stated that they are in negotiations with a number of international teams, including Nepal and the Netherlands, to play a bilateral series.
India was scheduled to visit Bangladesh. That was what we were banking on. We believed that after facing India at home, we would travel to the Asia Cup. We are attempting to persuade another nation to visit Bangladesh as they are not currently coming. The schedules of other top nations are hectic. We are making an effort to go above that. The BCB cricket operation chief, Najmul Abedin, informed reporters on Saturday that it might be either Nepal or the Netherlands.
“We are considering playing a series with the next best team if we don’t get foreign teams; it will be required. The national squad will be well-prepared in this manner. More significantly, there will be fierce competition for those who are close to the national squad. However, bringing in a foreign squad is currently our first objective,” he stated.
