Bangladesh announces their selections for the Sri Lanka series, with Shakib al Hasan being left off.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board just revealed their team for the forthcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to begin on March 4. The most noteworthy development is that previous captain Shakib Al Hasan has been left off the squad, indicating a change in the balance of power.

The T20Is will kick off the exciting series, with the first two games scheduled for March 4 and 6 at Sylhet. The last Twenty20 match will take place at Chattanooga on March 9. Then, on March 13, 15, and 18, Chattogram will host the three ODIs. After that, the cricketing extravaganza will return to Sylhet, where the first Test will begin on March 22. The final match will take place in Chattogram, and the second test will begin on March 30.

The T20I team, which includes veterans like Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, and Mustafizur Rahman, is a well-balanced combination of experienced players and up-and-coming talent. Meanwhile, Najmul Hossain Shanto is leading a strong team that includes experienced players Mushfiqur Rahim and pace sensation Tanzim Hasan Sakib in the ODI selection announced for the first two matches.

T20I team: Taijul Islam, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Aliss Al Islam, Mahedi Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad, Liton Das, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Naim Sheikh, Towhid Hridoy, Soumya Sarkar

Bangladesh squads for the first and second ODIs:

Shakib al Hasan relinquishes his position as leader, making way for Najmul

It was recently reported that Najmul has taken Shakib’s place as the captain for all formats. Shakib announced the decision as he politely resigned because of a visual impairment that affected his left eye’s retina.

BCB President Nazmul Hassan clarified that following extensive deliberations, a decision was made to choose Najmul Hossain Shanto as Bangladesh’s captain for the forthcoming season in all three forms.

We had a lengthy conversation regarding leadership…BCB president Nazmul Hassan stated following a board meeting, “After the lengthy discussion, we reached in consensus to appoint Najmul Hossain Shanto as the captain of Bangladesh in all three formats for this year,” as cited by CricToday.

Shanto will now captain the squad in all formats after acting as Shakib’s temporary replacement in the past. Notably, Shanto led his team to notable wins in 2023, especially against New Zealand. He was a good pick for the captaincy post because of his leadership qualities, which were evident as Bangladesh won their first ODI and T20 series against the Kiwis on their home ground.
