Babar Azam ought to focus on his work ethic and physical health: Younis Khan

After Pakistan’s failure to make it to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023, Babar stepped down as captain. He was reinstated as white-ball captain after six months, but Pakistan hasn’t had much success. Babar also appears to be losing his form with the bat and is expected to lose his captaincy soon.

Regarding the same, former cricket player Younis Khan pointed out that the 29-year-old has a lot of expectations placed on him and counselled him to improve by concentrating more on his work ethic and physical health. Younis also emphasized that Babar should take advantage of the opportunities, as they don’t come along very often, and that the players should utilize social media responsibly.

Star batsman Babar Azam has been under heavy fire after Pakistan’s humiliating 2024 T20 World Cup loss

“People have big hopes for Babar. While it’s important for players to use social media responsibly, their on-field success will ultimately determine how well they perform. At a Pakistani press conference, Younis stated, “He (Babar) needs to focus on his fitness and work ethic since opportunities like these don’t come around very often.

Younis suggested that Babar take a cue from Virat Kohli

Younis advised Babar to give up the captaincy and take a cue from Virat Kohli. He said the 29-year-old should concentrate on the bigger objective, which is to play well, and that being captain is only a tiny thing. Younis went on to say that after giving one’s all for the nation, one should play for themself if they still have any energy left.

“Despite his early age, he has accomplished a lot, but he still needs to know what he wants to accomplish in the future. Performance is what counts, and captaincy is just a tiny detail.

Gaze upon Virat Kohli. After deciding to resign as captain on his own terms, he is currently shattering records all around the world. This demonstrates that representing one’s nation should come first. Play for yourself if you have any remaining energy, Younis added.
