Babar Azam Charged for ICC Code Breach in SL ODIs

Babar Azam, the former captain of Pakistan, was fined 10% of his match fee for violating the ICC Code of Conduct at Level 1. After he was found guilty of breaking Article 2.2, which addresses the misuse of cricket gear, apparel, ground fixtures, or fittings during an international match, the sentence was put in place.

His first infraction within a 24-month period has also resulted in the addition of a demerit point to his disciplinary record. In the 21st over of Pakistan’s innings, Babar, who was obviously upset about being dismissed, hit the stumps with his bat before leaving the pitch.

On-field umpires Alex Wharf, Rashid Riaz, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, and Faisal Afridi made the charge. The sentence was suggested by Ali Naqvi of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.

There was no need for a formal trial because Babar Azam acknowledged the crime and accepted the punishment.

Level 1 violations are punishable by a minimum of an official reprimand and a maximum of 50% of a player’s match fee, in addition to one or two demerit points, according to ICC regulations.

Babar Azam was instrumental in Pakistan’s series whitewash of Sri Lanka, notwithstanding the little disciplinary setback. With 165 runs, including his record-breaking 20th ODI century, he concluded the series as the series’ top scorer.

Pakistan is now concentrating on the forthcoming T20I tri-series with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe after finishing the ODI series. On November 18, Pakistan will play their first match of the campaign against Zimbabwe. On November 22, they will play Sri Lanka. Round-robin competition will be used for the tournament, and the final is set for November 29. Pakistan will be keen to capitalise on their recent success and win another series in front of their fans when they play at home.
