Babar Azam, captain of Pakistan, explains his team's shocking declaration against New Zealand in the Karachi Test

Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, provided an explanation for the unexpected declaration that his team made against New Zealand late in the fifth day of the Karachi Test on Friday. New Zealand was given a target of 138 runs to reach after Pakistan declared their innings late on day five with approximately 15 overs still to play.

The unexpected statement was made at the beginning of the test match, and the away team immediately began their pursuit of the target with all guns blazing.

However, because of the poor lighting conditions in the eighth over, the play had to be stopped before it was finished. Babar Azam stated that Pakistan intended to “take a gamble” despite the fact that they were only able to grab one wicket before the test finished in a tie.

Saud Shakeel, who was batting in the centre of the field and had already reached fifty, was caught aback by the captain’s unexpected decision.

After the game, Babar Azam was quoted as saying, “We stated we’d go after a result.”

“We decided to take a risk since you never know. It’s business as usual. Almost anything might take place. The collaboration between Saud and [Mohammad] Wasim Junior was essential to our success because it allowed us to get back into the game.

That sparked the notion that we could issue a declaration in my brain. Everyone was taken aback by how enjoyable it was, and it was a pleasant surprise. We reasoned that since anything could take place, it wouldn’t hurt to take a chance “said Babar Azam.

Pakistan was not successful in obtaining the early cluster of wickets that they desired before making the call. However, New Zealand responded to the bait by making a few rapid rushes, and they were getting close to catching the target when the game was stopped because of the low lighting.

“There will be times when you will need to make courageous choices and take risks. As the leader of the group and the captain, I make an effort to do that. Even if you can’t absolutely ensure a certain outcome, you nonetheless make preparations for it “Babar Azam stated.

Pakistan finished the year with no wins in home Tests, but they were able to prevent a fifth consecutive loss at home in Karachi. Despite this, the captain of Pakistan’s team stated that New Zealand dominated the test.

“It’s not that we need to switch up how we play the game of cricket. We need to take things both day by day and session by session at this point. We need to have a positive attitude and play a competitive game.

We’re working on it. Everyone approaches the game with a unique mentality and strategy. We have to give New Zealand credit for the way in which they performed and dominated the game “Babar Azam stated.
