Mohammad Azharuddin, a great hitter and former captain of India, has cautioned the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) over their refusal to come to India for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which would be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India. He thinks that the only thing that will ultimately suffer from this disaster is Bangladeshi cricket.
Azharuddin said that when foreign cricket teams like South Africa and New Zealand are playing in India, it is unreasonable for Bangladesh to have security concerns. The seasoned cricket player went on to say that the timetable is set in stone and cannot be altered at the last minute.
It’s their loss if they don’t show up. Their complaints regarding our security system are unfounded. There are numerous international matches going on, yet no side has voiced any complaints. They will lose as well as their players if they fail to show up.
Azharuddin stated, “Our country is very secure,” according to Asianet Newsable.
“Every team is participating. South Africa played a few days ago, while New Zealand is playing in India right now. You cannot continue to move the World Cup matches around. It is really tough to move matches because they are already scheduled,” the former Indian captain continued.
Asif Nazrul is adamant on staying away from India.
Notably, the BCB is requesting that its matches be moved to Sri Lanka due to security concerns and is hesitant to come to India for the World Cup. After several talks and promises from the international governing body prior to the twenty-team competition, the Bangla Tigers have not changed their mind, thus the ICC is now looking at other options.
Asif Nazrul, the sports advisor for Bangladesh, reiterated his staunch stance against Bangladesh’s desire to visit India, claiming that the ICC had denied their request. He further charged that their request was not being fairly handled by the ICC.
“There has been no change in the security risk associated with playing in India. No fictitious analysis or presumption gave birth to this worry. It started with an actual occurrence in which one of our nation’s top players was made to lower his head in front of extremists, and the Indian cricket board just ordered him to leave and withdrew him from India, according to Nazrul.
According to reports, the ICC is now thinking of calling in a substitute for Scotland because Bangladesh did not reply in a timely manner.
