Axar Patel, an all-rounder for India, will not play in the final two Twenty20 Internationals against South Africa, the BCCI announced on Monday, December 15. Due to illness, Axar did not play in the third Twenty20 International in Dharamsala.
Along with the rest of the team, Axar will be evaluated further in Lucknow, according to the BCCI.
In Shahbaz Ahmed, the selection committee has chosen a comparable substitute. The 31-year-old has already represented India in five international games; his most recent participation was during the October 2023 Asian Games.
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s pace leader, was also absent for the third match. It’s still uncertain if the fast bowler would be available for the remaining two games because he had to return home for personal reasons.
India easily won the third Twenty20 International despite their absences, taking a 2-1 series lead. The series finale will take place in Ahmedabad on December 19, while the following match is set for December 17 in Lucknow.
