Australian fast bowler Thornton falls ill, hospitalized

Australian pacer Henry Thornton was taken to the hospital during the ongoing India A vs. Australia A series in Kanpur after he may have had food sickness. The Australia A team’s 27-year-old fast bowler had to be admitted to a private hospital after suffering a serious stomach ailment.

Before coming to Kanpur, Thornton had been suffering from mild stomach pain, team officials said. However, after eating at the team hotel, his condition drastically deteriorated. He was sent to Regency Hospital as his symptoms worsened, where medical professionals determined that he had a stomach illness and placed him under observation for two days.

Fortunately, Thornton has made a full recovery and has been released. He is anticipated to be available for the rest of the tour after rejoining his colleagues. The entire team’s nutrition has been tightened by the Australian camp. Three additional athletes reported experiencing mild gastrointestinal issues, but none of them needed to be hospitalised, according to a Hindustan Times report.

Australian and India prepare for the series finale.

In the meantime, the visitors levelled the three-match series 1-1 with a clinical effort in the second unofficial ODI at Green Park Stadium. Despite choosing to bat first, India A, who won the first game handily, were bowled out for 246 in 45.5 overs.

With an incredible 94, Tilak Varma once again made headlines, and Riyan Parag added a 58. However, a middle-order collapse placed India on the defensive after their 101-run partnership was ended. Australia’s best bowler was Jack Edwards, who had figures of 4 for 56. Will Sutherland also contributed early breakthroughs.

The objective was revised by DLS due to a mid-game rain. Australia easily defeated the target of 160 runs in 25 overs. Before Mackenzie Harvey (70* off 49) and Cooper Connolly (50* off 31) put up a 103-run partnership to secure a commanding nine-wicket victory in only 16.4 overs, Jake Fraser-McGurk got things started quickly with 36 off just 20 balls. The series is currently tied at 1-1 after Australia A rallied in the second ODI after India A won the first by 171 runs. The series will be decided in the final match, which is also planned for Kanpur.
