Australia vs. Netherlands, Match 24 of the ODI World Cup 2023, Preview

On Wednesday, October 25 in Delhi, the 24th match of the 2017 ODI World Cup pits five-time champions Australia against qualifiers Netherlands. The ‘Men in Yellow’ would be wise to avoid underestimating the Dutch team despite the fact that this matchup appears to be a mismatch on paper. This World Cup has already produced some stunning upsets. Australia’s campaign got off to a bad start with two decisive losses to South Africa and India. However, with victories over Pakistan and Sri Lanka in a row, Pat Cummins and company returned to the tournament.

While David Warner and Mitchell Marsh’s opening partnership in the previous game against Pakistan stitched a 259-run stand, the rest of the Australian batters were unable to capitalize on the outstanding start, and the innings was declared over at 367/9 after 50 overs. In the chase, Pakistan performed admirably and nearly made their opponents pay for their subpar end to the innings.

There are several things about which Australia should be worried. No other Australian batter has scored 50 runs in an innings besides Warner, Marsh, and Josh Inglis. With nine wickets in four games, Adam Zampa has been among the wicket-takers in the bowling department. Josh Hazlewood, Cummins, and Mitchell Starc, a trio of seasoned seam bowlers, have not yet arrived at the event.

The Netherlands made progress against Pakistan in their first game before losing badly against a New Zealand team that was playing well. But in their third game, Scott Edwards and company wrote history by defeating South Africa in a game that was postponed due to weather. The Dutch team recently played Sri Lanka, and they came back from being down 91/6 to score 262. The “Lankan Lions,” however, successfully chased down the target in the 49th over with five wickets remaining.

The Netherlands have a good balance between exciting new players and seasoned veterans on their team. The fact that players like Vikramjit Singh, Max O’Dowd, and Teja Nidamanuru have fallen short of their expectations at the plate is a concern area for them. Logan van Beek, Sybrand Engelbrecht, and Scott Edwards have all contributed with the bat in a respectable manner. Bas de Leede has taken seven wickets at an average of 27.29 in four matches, making him the European nation’s leading wicket-taker thus far in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Pitch and Conditions: AUS vs. NED

Many runs have been scored on the newly laid fields at the Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. The competition at the location has had three games played so far. Teams batting first won two games, and the chasing team won one. In the most recent match played here between Afghanistan and England, dew barely made an appearance. The captain who wins the toss would prefer to bat first and score over 300 because the ball did hold up a little bit on the surface in the second innings.

Potential Starting Lineups for Match 24 of the ODI World Cup 2023 between AUS and NED Australia (AUS)

Australia will attempt to field the same starting lineup against the Netherlands. Travis Head is expected to make a comeback for the upcoming match against New Zealand, therefore David Warner and Mitchell Marsh will likely start the game as the opening pair.

David Warner, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins (c), Adam Zampa, and Josh Hazlewood make up the predicted XI.

 Netherlands

The Netherlands do not enjoy making numerous changes to their starting lineup. The same starting lineup from the previous game may be used, but they would want to get some runs from the top order. Wesley Barresi, 39, might take the place of Vikramjit Singh, who has scored just 18 runs in three innings after his 52-run performance against Pakistan.

Max O’Dowd, Colin Ackermann, Bas de Leede, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Teja Nidamanuru, Scott Edwards (C & WK), Logan van Beek, Roelof van der Merwe, Aryan Dutt, and Paul van Meekeren make up the predicted starting XI.
