The first innings of Australia’s third Test match against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy ended with 445 runs for the hosts. However, the Australian team found it difficult to remove the tailenders after Alex Carey, the final recognised batter, vexed the Indian team at the close of the first session. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc contributed 20 and 18 runs, respectively, while he scored 70 runs off 88 balls.
Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Nitish Reddy each contributed two and one wicket, while Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded India’s offensive with the ball, taking six. India’s customary batting collapse ensued as the top order quickly limped back to the pavilion, just when they had run out of options and had to use their batsmanship.
India lost Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, and at one point they were 22/3. Rain halted the match, and the three scored four, one, and three runs when the visitors desperately needed a partnership. When Rishabh Pant came back after the rainstorm, he scored just nine runs, leaving India at 44/4.
The sole tenacious strategy employed by the Indian batting was by KL Rahul, who appeared to be in good form and finished undefeated on Day 3 at Stumps with 33* off 63 balls. As the score read 51/4, Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, joined him in the middle. It’s important to remember that the visiting team is still behind by 394 runs. Australia’s Mitchell Starc took two wickets, while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood each took one. Since the Indian innings was just 17 overs old, the day was ultimately cancelled due to the constant rain.
Meanwhile, here’s how the fans reacted to Day 3 of Australia vs India 3rd Test:
We should now look ahead for the next WTC cycle and give chances to Jurel Sai Kishore Sarfaraz and others

Just 17 overs and India have highlighted their fragility again. The first innings batting is a major concern.

Led by proper selection disasters both in squad and choice of shots.
There was no need from Kohli to poke a 5/6th stump line ball in the first 10 overs of the match.— Apurv Anand (@apurv_anand) December 16, 2024

As I said #ViratKohli𓃵 can’t be Sachin, as Kohli hasn’t learnt playing off stump deliveries for yearssss now, even the Great Tendulkar learnt within a series, example sydney test 2003, really disappointed that I would say I have given up on Kohli 🙏🏻😔🫣 #INDvsAUS
