Twitter Reactions: Australia defeats Pakistan by 29 runs in rain-marred T20I game

Once the ODI series was won, the visiting On Thursday, November 14, Pakistan took on Australia in the opening Twenty20 International at The Gabba in Brisbane. Heavy showers and lightning caused a delay in the toss. Hopes of having any game were further dashed as the downpour stopped and the black clouds hovered overhead. A T20I with seven overs per side was settled upon after the umpires attempted to call a match in spite of the cloudy weather.

After winning the toss, Pakistan decided to bowl first. In the second over, they were able to dismiss the dangerous Jake Fraser McGurk for 9 off 5, while Matthew Short went on to contribute just 7 off 4. All the while, Glenn Maxwell was doing the heavy lifting, scoring 43 off only 19 balls, including three maximums and five boundaries. By the time he was dismissed, the hosts had reached 66/3 in just 5.3 overs.

Tim David only managed 10 runs in 8 balls of play. But at the conclusion of the innings, Marcus Stoinis stole the show. Australia scored 93/4 (7 overs) thanks to his undefeated 21 off just seven balls, two boundaries, and one maximum. Abbas Afridi claimed two wickets for Pakistan, with Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf contributing one apiece.

Pakistani hitters are put under strain by Australian bowlers.

From the beginning, Pakistan was dominated by Australian bowlers. When he was taken up on the fourth delivery of the innings, Sahibzada Farhan (8 off 4 balls) appeared to be in excellent form and scored two boundaries. Next in line to try to swing across a broader delivery was Mohammad Rizwan (0 off 2 balls). Agha Salman, Babar Azam, and Usman Khan each scored three, four, and four runs. Irfan Khan, however, was caught for a duck. After just 3.2 overs, the visitors were at 24/6 and reeling.

Despite his brief appearance, Abbas Afridi (20* off 10) had an unbeatable task before of him. Australia won the inaugural Twenty20 International by 29 runs, while Pakistan finished their innings at 64/9.
