AUS vs IND: Cricket Australia confirms all tickets sold out for 1st day of Boxing Day Test in Melbourne

Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed a sell-out for Day 1 of the highly anticipated Boxing Day Test between Australia and India, which will be contested at the storied Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Interestingly, the venue can accommodate up to 90,000 people. Every year on December 26, CA hosts a Boxing Day Test match in accordance with tradition.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s third Test (BGT 2024–25) is therefore expected to create new attendance records. The opening day of the MCG’s non-Ashes Boxing Day Test will be packed for the first time. In addition, the Australian Cricket Board stated that in order to accommodate more fans, extra tickets might be made available closer to the event day.

“On December 24, a limited quantity of public tickets will be made available for non-members to secure their seats,” CA stated on their official ‘X’ handle.

Three days of the pink-ball Test in Adelaide drew 1,35,000 spectators.

Fan turnouts for the ongoing series have broken previous records. The three-day pink-ball Test in Adelaide drew over 1,35,000 spectators, shattering previous five-day Test attendance records. 36,225 spectators packed the Adelaide Oval on Day 1 alone, breaking a 12-year record.

In the same way, the series opener in Perth drew more than 31,000 people on Day 1 and 32,000 on Day 2, for a four-day total of 96,463, which is the second-highest attendance ever noted in Perth. In cricket, the Boxing Day Test has a unique place on the schedule. It blends the joyous occasion of Christmas with the major event of international cricket, and it is played every year on December 26.

The MCG reportedly has its biggest-ever audience in mind for a non-Ashes Boxing Day Test. In the meantime, Australia’s incredible comeback in Adelaide and India’s decisive triumph in the first Test at Perth have both teams knotted at one. Both teams will face off in the third Test in Brisbane before the action shifts to Melbourne.
