Australia 'strong favourites' in BGT 2024-25 vs 'brittle' India: Tim Paine

According to former captain Tim Paine, Australia will defeat India in the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy,(BGT) which is scheduled to start in Perth on November 22. The series is very important to both sides because they are currently vying for a berth in the World Test Championship final for the third edition. Furthermore, Australia will be more motivated to perform well because they haven’t defeated India in a Test series since the 2014–15 campaign.

In the meanwhile, Paine brought to light the current status of Indian cricket when they suffered their first series loss at home in twelve years after losing back-to-back Test matches against New Zealand. India’s batting unit has been struggling lately, according to the former keeper-batter, and he thinks it will be hard for the Rohit Sharma-led team to be as dangerous as they were during India’s last two trips to Australia without Mohammed Shami.

The favourites, Australia, will get off to a terrific start. India’s batting seems a little frail, and I don’t think they’ve been playing very well. We know that Australia has the talent, even though their batting output does not appear to be particularly impressive. Shami is going to make a big difference; he has a lot of responsibility, Bumrah. Paine stated on The Grade Cricketer podcast, “It’s curtains for me if he gets hurt.”

Additionally, he clarified that although New Zealand has a strong team, they are insufficient to defeat India at home, which led him to question India’s readiness for the Australia tour. According to the 39-year-old, New Zealand won back-to-back games because India made too many blunders.

It’s not very excellent there (New Zealand). That’s harsh? Unbelievable performance, no question. I must admit, though, that it makes me a little concerned about India.

When it comes to Australia, even without Mohammed Shami, New Zealand has always been a fantastic team at overcoming setbacks and turning mistakes into opportunities for growth. Additionally, he said, “I believe that India made a lot of mistakes during the series.”
