Asia Cup 2025: Suryakumar Yadav 'feels great' post-surgery

Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20I captain, discussed his injury troubles and recovery ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. The excellent middle-order hitter became captain after Rohit Sharma retired from shorter formats.

Suryakumar recounted his injury diagnosis, surgery, and rehabilitation in a recent video. The recuperation support and guidance he received were appreciated. The captain is back in action, with footage showing him practicing, exercising, and improving his hitting.

“I feel good. About five to six weeks. Good procedure and habits for six weeks; fingers crossed. Feeling great. The sports hernia was detected late in IPL. I sensed it because I had a similar accident last year and learnt. There were few checklists. After doing those things, I decided to get a little MRI, Suryakumar Yadav told the BCCI.

My body is understood by CoE coaches: Suryakumar Yadav

Right-handed hitter said conditioning coach and physios helped him recover. He also said that taking one week at a time helped him heal completely. The Asia Cup 2025 opener against hosts UAE on September 10 will be his first big event as India’s captain.

I saw the injury clearly in the scans. After IPL, I moved to Germany. Like last year, things went well. I understood the recuperation would be gradual. I was ready for whatever. Take one week at a time. We’re here, and I’m happy, remarked Suryakumar Yadav.

My most significant thing is that when you come here at COE or when I was here at NCA last year, they recognised how my body reacts to different conditions. All the strength and conditioning coaches and physios knew how his body worked, so they devised programs appropriately. It happened instantly. When I started going to the gym and came here, they planned sessions. He said, “We took one week at a time and got here slowly but steadily.”

The Mumbai native will join the Indian team in the UAE for the continental competition.
