With thousands of cricket fans expected to gather in the city for the UAE’s match against tournament favourites India on Wednesday, September 10, the Dubai Police have announced a significant security action plan ahead of the Asia Cup. Dedicated patrols will be stationed near Dubai Sports City’s Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which is hosting a number of high-profile matches during the championship, according to the police.
The eight-team competition, which features the best cricketing nations in Asia, started on Tuesday, September 9, and will end on September 28 with the final in Dubai. There will also be matches in Abu Dhabi, and on Sunday, September 14, the much anticipated India vs. Pakistan match will take place in Dubai.
The assistant commander in chief for operations, Maj Gen Saif Al Mazrouei, revealed during a press briefing that the police had been collaborating closely with the event planners to make sure everything runs smoothly. He mentioned that a thorough security strategy that addresses the stadium, the surrounding areas, and traffic management to make entry easier has been finalised. He acknowledged that their objective is to ensure that every spectator has a fun and safe experience.
The UAE-India match is likely to draw large crowds and significant traffic. Because parking near the arena will be limited, officials have advised the public to plan ahead and take public transit whenever possible.
Fans can take the Red Line to Dubai Internet City station, where the F34 bus connects to Sports City, even though the Metro does not go directly to Dubai Sports City.
After a roughly 20-minute bus ride, it’s a quick seven-minute walk to the stadium. Authorities are nevertheless optimistic that the Asia Cup will be successfully held despite the increased security and transportation measures in place.
