As the Suryakumar Yadav-led team prepares to defend their championship in the continental competition, which begins on September 9, there have been rumors that famous India skipper MS Dhoni has been granted the position of mentor for the national team for the forthcoming Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025. There is no proof, though, that Dhoni has accepted the mentorship position that the Board of Control for Cricket in India allegedly extended to him.
Since it is impossible to contact the senior wicketkeeper-batter by phone or message, former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has stated that it is extremely tough to predict whether or not he will accept the position with the Indian squad. However, Tiwary has stated that he will be eager to see what Dhoni and head coach Gautam Gambhir have to offer if he does.
“If Dhoni takes the role, only time will tell. Has he answered the phone when offered the mentor position? Because it’s incredibly hard to reach him on the phone, as far as I’m aware. He hardly ever even answers the mails. This has been confirmed by numerous players. If he sees the SMS message, we don’t know how he would respond. If he accepts, his background as a player and captain will be very helpful because he is highly respected by the new players who are rising to prominence on the Indian squad today. The Navbharat Times cited Tiwary as adding, “The combination of Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni will also be worth watching.”
India was coached by Dhoni for the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Notably, Dhoni served as the coach of the Indian squad during the T20 World Cup in 2021. Despite having a superb lineup, the Indian side, captained by Virat Kohli at the time, was unable to advance to the global event’s knockout stages. It will be interesting to see what the Ranchi native, who is rumored to be returning as a mentor, can contribute with his cricketing intelligence and savvy.
