Rain delayed the start of India’s opening match in the currently underway Asia Cup 2023 event. Despite the fact that the Men in Blue won the toss and elected to bat first when playing Pakistan, the game was called off on two separate occasions. Because there was no clear winner after the first inning, the second inning was completely thrown out.

As a result of the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) desire to prevent the same incident from occurring in the future, it is anticipated that the location of the match will be moved within Sri Lanka. Even though there is a high probability of precipitation in the following weeks, the Super Four matches and the final are still scheduled to take place in Colombo. Because of this, the governing council is doing everything it can to move the event to either Dambulla or Pallekele.

There has been no official statement addressing the matter because both the broadcasters and the teams are unwilling to accept the new development. It is important to note that Sri Lanka does not typically host any matches during the month of September due to the monsoon, but in this case, an arrangement was struck so that it could do so because India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. It is interesting to note that the Pakistan Cricket Board, who are in charge of hosting the tournament, made a proposal to the authorities of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), but their proposal was turned down.

It is anticipated that an official report will be provided within the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours, since both the fans and the broadcasters are eager to learn the outcome of the situation. In the meantime, former PCB chief Najam Sethi has already thrown a dig at BCCI on the venue shift, and it is anticipated that the subject will become more contentious in the coming days.

On the other hand, it’s also likely that the rain will have an impact on the upcoming league game between India and Nepal. Assuming this scenario plays out, the team captained by Rohit Paudel will be eliminated from competition, and the Men in Blue will move on to the next round. India, on the other hand, would move on to the next round. Despite this, both teams are prepared to play the full 50 overs of the contest.
