This information was disclosed by veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who has played for both PBKS and CSK in the past. He clarified that RR’s trade request for Samson was simple: they wanted to exchange a bowler and a finisher with Punjab. Ashwin said that one of the important names mentioned in the possible trade was Marcus Stoinis, an all-rounder from Australia.
According to reports, in addition to the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Punjab Kings (PBKS) reportedly submitted an offer to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the seasoned wicketkeeper-batter before to the IPL 2026 auction. This adds another wrinkle to the trade drama surrounding Sanju Samson. There was a time when PBKS was also in the running to sign Samson, despite the fact that CSK is said to have done so.
With his ability to contribute with both bat and ball, Stoinis was an ideal fit for RR’s need for a finisher. Ashwin did not, however, reveal which bowler PBKS had proposed to deal with Stoinis. It might have been one of Vijaykumar Vyshak, Harpreet Brar, or possibly a mix of several uncapped bowlers, according to speculation.
The agreement ultimately fell through because it appeared that PBKS lacked the necessary resources to live up to RR’s demands. The team lacked a player with substantial trade worth to balance a Samson swap, other from Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh. As a result, the trade talks came to a standstill despite PBKS’s enthusiasm, giving CSK the best chance to sign the RR captain before the start of the next IPL season.
“I heard a rumor that Rajasthan received a trade offer from the Punjab Kings, so it wasn’t simply Delhi or Chennai vying for Sanju Samson through trade. It was an excellent offer. Rajasthan desired a combination of a bowler and a finisher.
According to Ashwin on Ash ki Baat, Marcus Stoinis may have also been considered.
According to reports, Ravindra Jadeja is a crucial component of the possible deal, and CSK seems to have the firepower to complete the Samson transfer. In return for Samson, Jadeja is anticipated to transfer to RR if the trade proceeds as planned. To balance the trade value, one of Sam Curran or Matheesha Pathirana could also be added.
From a financial perspective, Samson’s price tag is INR 18 crore, while Jadeja and Curran combined make up INR 20.40 crore, therefore the player valuations are about equal.
