On Day 3 of the first Test at Dominica on Friday, India defeated the West Indies by 141 runs, thanks in large part to the outstanding play of debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 171, and seasoned veteran Ravichandran Ashwin, who picked up a match-high 12 wickets. Virat Kohli, a former captain, also joined the fun, hitting 76 as India declared their innings at 421/5. From there, Ashwin and company took control, bowling out the hosts in the second innings for just 130 runs.

Saba Karim, a former India wicketkeeper who is currently a Jio Cinema specialist, lauded Ashwin’s efforts and said of him: “He is always open to learn and that is what is great about R Ashwin. Even in this game, you would have seen that he was fast to identify the hitters’ areas of vulnerability before he set about trying to set them up. He adjusted the angle as necessary, as you could see.

Saba Karim is intrigued by Ashwin’s willingness to add new elements to his game despite playing on the international stage for more than ten years.

He continued, “As an off-spin bowler, he keeps adding so many new things to his toolkit, and I feel that there is a lot for the young spinners to learn from him.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal, meanwhile, made a significant impact on the game and seized his opportunity. Karim commented on his performance by saying: “The fact that he played on all three days, through different conditions of the surface here, in different scenarios, in different phases, and he batted in such an accomplished manner and that’s what you would love to see in a young batter, and it seems he had come well prepared for a Test match like this.”
