Ashraful focuses on mental side in batting coach role

Ashraful focuses on mental side in batting coach role

In preparation to lead the batting unit in the forthcoming home series against Ireland, Bangladesh’s recently hired batting coach, Muhammad Ashraful, is intent on working with hitters on the mental aspect of their game rather than the technical aspect.

Ashraful has been back in the national dressing room for almost 11 years with the nomination by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. When Ashraful returned from an eight-year hiatus to address problems, he was unable to make an international return as a cricket player.

Following that, Ashraful informed this website in an exclusive interview that he is concentrating on coaching because he thinks it will help him return to the international scene.

“Alhamdulillah, I had actually been planning for the last two years that after leaving cricket, I want to stay on the field, and I want to come into coaching,” Ashraful recently stated to Cricbuzz.

“This year, I am working in the National Cricket League (NCL), which is the nation’s traditional first-class competition. I had the opportunity to work for two seasons with the Rangpur Riders in the Global Super League, followed by a year in the BPL. I have actually played with every member of the current national team, so I have experience working with them in both home and international competitions,” he remarked.

“I am so thrilled to be reentering the Bangladeshi dressing room; it feels fantastic. As a player who spent 13 years in that dressing room and played under numerous coaches, I have witnessed a lot. “I’ll share that with our players now, and it feels good,” he said.

The way I work now and with everyone, I try to explain to them why I was successful and why I wasn’t, how I became so consistent, and why I was inconsistent. In this game, you really need to be more mentally strong than technically strong, and I will discuss these topics with players and the national dressing room. Having a clean head makes it simpler to bat and perform, so these are the things I’ll focus on,” he said.

Additionally, Ashraful stated that he is not prepared to completely alter techniques because each player has a unique batsmanship.

No, that (attempting to make too many technical adjustments) won’t help because Chanderpaul played with that stance and scored thousands and thousands of runs. Then, how are they performing? “Because of their superior mental strength,” he stated.

“In cricket what I believe is the more mentally strong they can be made, the freer they can be kept and those are the things I will actually try to help with,” he added.

Though they need to focus more on time than power in T20Is, Ashraful stated that he is confident in the Test team because they are relatively experienced.

Overall, you can see that the Test team is a very experienced group because the match will begin with a Test match. Additionally present are Mushfiq, Shanto in his capacity as captain, Miraz, Litton, and Mominul. The test team has a lot of experience, so to speak. “Hopefully, it will be simple for me,” Ashraful remarked.

As you can see from our results, we have won four straight T20I series, excluding the most recent one. Perhaps, though, our hitters had enough of chances to demonstrate their abilities even in that area.

Therefore, I might try to assist with those things,” Ashraful stated.

“Because bowlers in international cricket bowl at 140 km/h, I consider practicing cricket shots because timing is more important than power hitting. He answered, “Perhaps those are the things I’ll tell everyone.”

A day after being named batting coach, Ashraful said he had no issues with Mohammad Salahuddin, the senior assistant coach.

“I’m not like that; I have good relationships with everyone. I get along well with Salahuddin bhai. At the time, I was the captain, and Salahuddin bhai worked. So, yeah, most definitely not in that way,” he said.
