Now that Rinku has earned a well-earned call-up to the ODI series for the visit of South Africa, eminent commentator Ashish Nehra, a former left-arm bowler for India, has offered his thoughts. Nehra is confident in the southpaw going into the forthcoming series because he thinks the selectors have found something special in him.
In the Twenty20 International series against Australia, Rinku has been instrumental for India, demonstrating his ability to bat aggressively to win games. Among his remarkable performances was a rapid 46 off 29 balls in the fourth match, when he scored 20 runs off and greatly helped India win the series. Rinku was praised for his ability to close out games because of his calm demeanor and strong hitting throughout the series. His unbeaten knocks of 22 and 31 in previous games served as examples.

He played as the squad needed him to. It appeared at one point that they could reach190, but reaching 160 would have gotten difficult as well if India had lost Rinku at that moment.
“His selection in the 50-over format is a huge plus for India. He got an early opportunity to bat and proved he could bat for a long time,” Nehra added.
