Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, was fined for his team’s poor over rate against the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Hardik Pandya was fined INR 24 lakhs because it was his team’s second infringement of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences.
The Impact Player and the concussion substitute were among the other players in the playing XI who were each fined INR 6 lakh or 25% of their respective match fees, whichever was lower.
“Yes, without a doubt (hard way to go down).” fought effectively given our total. Even though we weren’t playing, we still made an effort as a team. It was a margin game. Undoubtedly, that was not a 150-wicket score. We were 20–25–30 runs short in a 175-wicket match. The bowlers deserve praise for their perseverance, although we were unable to complete the task. At the post-match presentation, Hardik stated, “Catches didn’t really cost us, but the No balls, with my No balls, and even in the last over, in T20s, is a crime and more often than not, it bites you.”
“I’m so proud of the boys for giving it their all and making sure we stayed in the game.” The ground wasn’t damp throughout the first innings, but the ball continued to get wetter after that. It was challenging; I’m not sure if it benefited us or not. Rain continued to fall, making stoppages and restarts undesirable. In the end, we had to play a game, and we most certainly did,” he continued.
Nehra agrees to the match referee’s ruling.
For violating the IPL Code of Conduct, Ashish Nehra, the head coach of the Gujarat Titans, has been fined 25% of his match costs and has also accrued one demerit point. He accepted the Match Referee’s sentence after acknowledging committing the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20, which deals with behaviour that goes against the spirit of the game.
The Match Referee’s ruling is definitive and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct.
