"Ashes 2025-26: 'Will stay focused on rehab' - Chris Woakes gives positive update on shoulder injury recovery"

Chris Woakes is in a race against time to be selected for the Ashes in November. Earlier this month, the five-match series between England and India concluded, marking the star all-rounder’s return to Test cricket. After attempting to stop a ball from reaching the boundary in the fifth and final Test match at The Oval, Chris Woakes dislocated his shoulder.

On Day 5 of the Test match, the 36-year-old showed remarkable guts and resolve by walking out to bat at No. 11 with his left arm in a sling, despite his inability to bowl any further in the high-stress contest.

Following the Test match, Chris Woakes stated that he was considering having surgery or concentrating on rehabilitation. But he wasn’t wearing a sling for support when he was recently spotted on the sidelines of The Hundred. This was encouraging information from the Birmingham native, indicating that his injuries is not as severe as initially thought.

Chris Woakes also stated that he will try to recover through rehabilitation rather than undergoing surgery at this time.

“It’s definitely fantastic news. The best way to look at it is that way. “I feel like I can move it much better now that it’s out of the sling, which is good two weeks later,” Chris Woakes stated in an interview with Sky Sports.

“I guess it feels a little bit more normal as you start moving a little bit more. However, much more work has to be done. I’m going to make an effort to remain committed to the treatment and get it as strong as I can. We’ll see how it goes, but ideally we can make it nice and strong again. Ideally, I won’t require surgery for the time being,” he continued.

In the series against India, Woakes took 11 wickets at an average of 52.18 from five Test matches. Even though he wasn’t playing at his best, England will need his expertise if they want to win the coveted Ashes trophy again for the first time since 2018.
