Asha Sobhana T20 World Cup selection, said "I want to do my best for my country whenever I get a chance."

Before this year’s Women’s Premier League, Asha Sobhana had no role in the Indian team’s overall strategy. The team management was pleased with Saika Ishaque, Deepti Sharma, and Radha Yadav; however, Sobhana stole the show in the WPL 2024, taking 12 wickets in 10 matches to finish as the second-highest wicket-taker of the competition.

Following that, she took four wickets at an economy rate of 7.45 in three Twenty20 International matches for India. The team management decided to support Asha for the forthcoming women’s T20 World Cup, which is set to start on October 3, based on her contributions and success in spin-friendly surfaces. The 33-year-old expressed her enthusiasm at the call-up and said that the BCCI app was how she learnt about it.

Speaking about her experience, she declared that she aspired to win the World Cup and wanted to perform well the next time the cricketer from Kerala played for the national side.

As with everyone else, I first learnt about it through the BCCI app. I’m thrilled as I put a lot of effort into this. I am eager to give it my all because I am aware of how important it is. Everybody wants to win the World Cup.

Asha Sobhana told India.com, “I want to give my country my all whenever I get the chance.”

It all depends on your perspective. Of course, I was a little late to this party, but even though I consider myself to be somewhat elderly, I still need to exercise caution. When questioned about her motivation, she replied, “I just remind myself that I am a cricket player and I have to do my best as long as I play cricket.”

India’s opponents in the competition’s group stage will be Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The two teams that place highest in the group advance to the semifinals.
