Arun Lal, a former Indian cricket player, expressed appreciation for Shubman Gill’s lack of “auto-pilot” captaincy. Lal said that Shubman Gill ability to get input from his teammates was one of his most endearing leadership qualities.
He said that Shubman Gill performances with the bat in the opening two Test matches of the current five-match series between England and India had surpassed everyone’s expectations.
“I think Shubman Gill is an amazing cricket player, but I had no idea he was this brilliant.
No one else did, I’m sure. He is incredibly talented and composed. According to Indian Express, Lal said, “It’s almost like he knows what ball is coming before it’s bowled.”
I respect that he is not an autopilot skipper. He pays attention and heeds the counsel of Rahul (KL), Jadeja (Ravindra), and others. The company is benefiting from his self-assurance and patience. He will remain here for a very long time,” he continued.
The former cricket player turned broadcaster was pleased by the level of confidence displayed by the relatively inexperienced team on this tour. For those who are not familiar, the series is now tied at one, and the third Test is a pivotal moment that will determine the outcome for both teams. The team that travelled to the UK, in Lal’s opinion, has surpassed his expectations in terms of their capabilities, beliefs, and resolve.
“I have to admit that I didn’t think this team had this kind of resolve, belief, or ability when they were travelling to England. I am really happy with this team’s performance, which has beyond my expectations. If you give these kids a chance and that confidence, you’d better be careful. It will be hard to break in soon if you’re sitting out,” he remarked.
The former opening batsman supported adding Kuldeep Yadav to the lineup rather than focussing on batting depth. But, given that Washington Sundar is a far more valuable batsman, it will be intriguing to watch the lineup Shubman Gill and company choose for the crucial match against a strong England team at the Lord’s.
“From my perspective, it’s a significant question. I don’t like that you’re playing so many hitters up to number nine. You must have bowlers who have an impact. Lal said of the unconventional spinner, “Kuldeep is in form, and England’s lower order can struggle against wrist spin.”
India will play England at Lord’s in the third Test of the series. The goal of Gill & Co. will be to maintain the momentum. Following their 336-run victory at Edgbaston, the Indian team would be feeling quite confident and ready to seize the 2-1 lead.
