In an attempt to regain his red-ball rhythm before the five-Test series against England, which begins on June 20, Arshdeep Singh revealed his joy upon returning to Kent, where he played county cricket two years prior.
On June 13, India will begin a four-day warm-up match at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham. This will be the last practice for the team captained by Shubman Gill before the eagerly awaited series against England.
After many of them participated in the thrilling 18th Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Arshdeep Singh stated that the players are eager to get back into the red-ball format. He claimed that the bowlers will give the England hitters a hard time until they are used to using the red ball.
Since all of the players have been playing with the white ball for a while, my primary motivation for today’s training session was to acquire a sense of the rhythm—how the body feels, how the red ball is coming out of the hand. So, I had a great time. The intensity will continue to rise as we move forward, step by step, and we’ll continue to make it harder and harder for the batters to face the ball,” Arshdeep told BCCI TV.
“The focus was on finding the best rhythm as a bolwer because the batters were in a competitive mode and they had to make good plans to get them out,” the left-arm seamer remarked. Sai Sudharsan, who was called up for his first Test match, and Shubman appeared to be in excellent form, according to Arshdeep.
“Bowling to the batters was enjoyable. Despite the fact that we were only practicing rhythm, they had a competitive attitude and a somewhat compact appearance. Thus, that added to the enjoyment. In order to get them out, we needed to grind properly and have a good plan. When Sai [Sudharsan] first joined the squad, he appeared to be quite small. Shubman Gill, the captain, appeared to be in good form. Going forward, I’ll do all in my power to keep getting better and release them more frequently,” Arshdeep stated.
The emphasis is on how we can both raise our game: Arshdeep
The Punjab pacer hailed the excellence of senior pro Jasprit Bumrah and talked about his conviction in himself. Arshdeep described how they work hard to improve their abilities and support the team in achieving its goals.
“I always think I’m the best when I’m holding the ball. However, everyone is aware that the phrase “comparison” is meaningless when a player like Jasprit Bumrah is part of the attack. Therefore, the emphasis is on how we can aid the team and enhance each other’s skill sets and game. My attention is on that. Arshdeep said.
The 26-year-old speedster, who helped Punjab Kings make it to the IPL 2025 final after an 11-year absence, also talked about his time playing for Kent and how he used to relax in the gorgeous county.
“Being here is a great feeling. You initially get that “homely” sensation, and sure, I’ve been here for two months previously, so it feels wonderful. Making a lot more memories here is something I’m really looking forward to. It is a quiet, little place. There aren’t many people. This is the greatest area if you need peace of mind because there’s always a cool breeze blowing, the sun is softly warming, and sipping hot chocolate in that environment is pure happiness. Additionally, Arshdeep advised having some churros with it if you have a sweet craving.
