USA vs. IND: Arshdeep Singh becomes first Indian T20 World Cup bowler to pick wicket on first delivery.

During the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York, Arshdeep Singh went unnoticed despite giving up runs on the bowler-friendly wickets. Even though he regularly took wickets, his economy rate has started to raise red flags. In three games, the left-arm pacer has bowled 12 overs and allowed runs at a 6.25 rate, which is highly exceptional on surfaces in the United States.

But Arshdeep has climbed to a level in T20 World Cup bowling that no other bowler has surpassed. In T20 World Cups, he became the lone Indian bowler to pick off the first ball of the innings. Against the USA, he accomplished this milestone by dismissing Shayan Jahangir with the opening ball. Taking four wickets and conceding just nine runs in four overs, he had an outstanding performance overall.

Here’s Arshdeep Singh taking the game’s first wicket:

India put early pressure on the United States

On June 12, at the Nassau County Stadium in New York, India and the USA squared off in Match 25 of the T20 World Cup 2024. India chose to field first after winning the toss. Indian bowlers fulfilled their duty by limiting the hosts to a meagre 110. Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya took one wicket each, and Arshdeep got four wickets in addition. The squad was short by 20 runs, according to USA hitter Nitish Kumar, who put up a solid 27-run innings.

“We’re a little disappointed with the result considering where we were at one point in our innings, but we have the runs in the bank, the wicket isn’t the easiest, and we’ll try to defend.” It’s good to play in front of the audience, which is usually behind us,” Nitish remarked following the match.
