Taking on Sri Lanka in the opening One-Day International (ODI) of the current three-game series. On Friday, August 2, both teams faced off at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After opting to bat first, Sri Lanka scored 230 runs in the first innings. India responded with 230 runs of their own, tying the score.
It’s important to remember that in the lengthy history of ODI cricket, there have only been 44 ties in which India has been involved. The tenth incident involved Sri Lanka.
With skipper Rohit Sharma scoring 58 runs in 47 deliveries and Shubman Gill scoring 16 runs, the visitors got off to a fast start in the run chase. Moreover, Shreyas Iyer scored 23 runs and Virat Kohli scored 24.
KL Rahul and Axar Patel tried to salvage the innings in the middle order, scoring 31 and 33 runs, respectively. With fifteen balls remaining in hand, all-rounder Shivam Dube levelled the score with two sixes and a boundary. With the seemingly inevitable victory, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli began to rejoice. Rising from his chair, Kohli praised Dube’s work and gave Gambhir a back pat.
But Asalanka trapped Dube on the following ball, and he returned to the pavilion with just 25 runs. Arshdeep Singh was the last batsman to bat, and the Men in Blue needed one run to win the game, but there was still hope for India.

Arshdeep Singh chose to end the match with a boundary as the other players were getting ready to sprint to the ground to celebrate their victory. However, in trying to make a big shot, he was dismissed LBW, and the match was drawn. Gambhir and Kohli watched in surprise as the number 11 hitter sought for a review. Team India was taken aback while Sri Lanka was celebrating the tie.
