Watch: In the1st ODI against Sri Lanka, with 14 balls left, Arshdeep Singh channels Shannon Gabriel to tie the score

India and Sri Lanka are now playing a three-game series, and the first ODI concluded in a draw. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. But Arshdeep chose to heave the ball for a six rather than go for a single, and his attempt was removed by LBW, meaning that India lost their last wicket and the match remained drawn.

Sri Lanka was able to score 230 runs in the first innings thanks to a strong batting effort. Team India got off to a strong start as the visitors headed out to chase the mark, with captain Rohit Sharma scoring 58 runs in 47 deliveries. After Virat Kohli scored 24 runs, KL Rahul and Axar Patel contributed 31 and 33 runs, respectively, to the score. When Arshdeep Singh, the penultimate batter, stepped out to bat, India needed one run in the final fourteen balls.

After Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka removed Shivam Dube from the field in the previous delivery, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj were left to carry their team to victory.

Some people even compared Arshdeep Singh’s moment to that of Shannon Gabriel, who was bowled by the Windies during the 2017 Dominica Test match against Pakistan after trying a similar hit that put the team just minutes away from a draw.

Glad of our battle, it was necessary to maintain our composure: Rohit Sharma

In addition, Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, spoke up about the match and expressed his disappointment that his team was unable to score the winning run. He did, however, admit that he was pleased with the performance they gave.

“You have to bat well to get those scores, but they are achievable. We performed admirably in many areas, but we lacked a steady pace. Although the game would begin as soon as the spin started, we had a good start. We got behind after losing a few wickets.

returned via the stand that separated Rahul and Axar. I won’t read too much, but I’m disappointed that I didn’t score a run off of 14 balls. Proud of our fighting style, we needed to maintain our composure, Rohit remarked during the post-match awards ceremony.
