Even his great father, Sachin Tendulkar, was never able to reach the unusual milestone that Goa all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar accomplished in T20 cricket. Arjun Tendulkar joined a select few players who have opened both the batting and bowling in the same Twenty20 match during a recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy encounter against Madhya Pradesh.
The young player has had more playing time and responsibilities after moving from Mumbai to Goa prior to the 2022–2023 season. The left-arm pacer, who represents Goa in all three forms, has gotten better in every competition. Arjun Tendulkar historic moment occurred in Kolkata during Goa’s league-stage Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh. He was given twin responsibilities by Goa, opening the bowling and batting.
Notably, Arjun Tendulkar was also traded from the Mumbai Indians to the Lucknow Super Giants prior to the 2026 Indian Premier League.
With the new ball, he had an instant impact. Arjun Tendulkar bowled the opening over and got rid of opener Shivang Kumar right away. He got rid of Ankush Singh in his subsequent over before taking out Venkatesh Iyer. By making a catch and dismissing MP captain Rajat Patidar, he also made a contribution on the pitch. After giving up just five runs in his opening two overs, Arjun finished with 3 for 36 in his four overs.
The milestone is made even more memorable by the T20 stats of his father, Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin never opened the bowling even though he was a full-time opener in the format. The former bowled just 93 balls and claimed just two wickets in 96 T20 matches.
The southpaw maintained his new position at the top of the order with the bat. He gave Goa a strong start in their pursuit of 171 with a brilliant 16 from 10 balls that included three boundaries. Goa ultimately won by seven wickets thanks to his contribution and captain Suyash Prabhudessai’s undefeated 75. In the current SMAT season, he has taken six wickets in four games at an economy of 7.70 and contributed valuable runs at a strike rate of 120. This performance added to his steady run.
