Anshul Kamboj, a young and promising fast bowler, is probably going to be included in the lineup for India’s fourth Test match against England in the current five-match series. He took Nitish Kumar Reddy’s position on Monday, July 21, when the all-rounder had to fly back to recuperate from a knee ailment.
During Monday, July 21’s net practice in Manchester, the medium-pacer was seen bowling long stretches while enduring the heat. He was seen bowling with Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Jasprit Bumrah as the visiting team gets its bowling unit ready for the crucial match at Manchester’s Old Trafford.
According to The Hindu, he was seen conversing with bowling coach Morne Morkel and head coach Gautam Gambhir while he bowled to players like Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul. On occasion, the 24-year-old was spotted pushing batters with his speed. Ajit Agarkar and SS Das, national selectors, had been closely monitoring the Haryana pacer.
Since Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep have not fully recovered from their injuries, Anshul Kamboj could be considered for the third seaming option.
With the series at stake, Bumrah will spearhead the speed attack. Unless, of course, team combinations are given priority, Siraj is also a given. On Wednesday, July 23, he might easily make his debut on a national level.
Before this series started, Kamboj just played a few games for India A against England. In the second meeting in Northampton, where the Karnal-born players recorded tallies of 2/56 and 2/6, respectively, he was very brilliant. It’s interesting to note that in the same game, he also hit an undefeated 51 in the second innings.
Additionally, Mohammed Siraj had hinted that the bowling combinations would change. Therefore, it appears highly probable that Kamboj will make his debut in a few days. After losing by a slim margin of 22 runs at Lord’s, India will be looking to tie the series in Manchester, where they are currently behind 1-2.
