The Mumbai team is now aiming for its second WPL championship after defeating the Gujarat Giants by a commanding 47 runs in the elimination match.
They started the powerplay slowly against Gujarat, but Hayley Matthews (77 off 50) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (77 off 41) led their team to a commanding 213/4.
Harmanpreet helped the team to the highest-ever total in a WPL playoff match with her blazing cameo of 36 off just 12 at the end.
Gujarat never looked in the run-chase as they were bowled out for 166 after giving in to pressure from the scoreboard. Hayley Matthews, who earned Player of the Match after taking three wickets for 31 runs, also played a significant role with the ball. Before the thrilling final, the West Indies all-rounder spoke on the team’s unity and friendship and how their off-field chemistry has helped them succeed on the field.
“I adore being a member of the Mumbai Indians! The team has always had a great spirit, and winning the title in the inaugural season was amazing. We didn’t make it to the finals last year, but it’s wonderful to be back in the team and playing at a high level this year. “Hopefully, we can make history by winning again! The Delhi Capitals have clearly outperformed us this season and are a top team. However, I think that implies we’re due for a victory over them right now. “Hopefully, the final goes our way,” she continued.
