Anjum Chopra wants to see "consistency" in India's fielding for the 2024 Women's Asia Cup

During their recent journey to India, the Indian women’s team excelled against South Africa, winning the one-off Test, levelling the T20I series, and completely overwhelming the visitors in the ODI series. Even if the bowlers and batters were performing at their peak, Anjum Chopra, a former Indian cricket player, has pointed out that the fielding was heavily scrutinised due to glaring errors.

According to Anjum Chopra, the Indian team appeared unprepared when playing South Africa. She took issue with the fact that other players missed multiple catches.

The Women in Blue, meantime, are in Sri Lanka for the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, which is in its ninth year. Chopra denounced the ongoing problem of the Indian team’s off-days from the pitch.

It should go without saying that consistency is a must while playing international cricket. It is not possible to do well in fielding one day and poorly the next. The unusual thing has to be that you had a bad day, Chopra reportedly stated, as reported by Indian Express.

It isn’t possible that you pitch well one day and then everyone comments on how great you were that day. Therefore, consistency is required. There’s always room for a catch. It’s as if you give yourself a pat on the back and decide that it won’t matter the next time. Or you say, ‘We’ve already seen the consequence, this is getting a bit too consistent, and that’s not the way to go,'” she continued.

On July 19, India and Pakistan will square off in the inaugural Women’s Asia Cup 2024 match at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium in Dambulla. It’s important to note that India, who has seven titles under their belt and is fiercely protecting their title, is not taking any prisoners. They are grouped with Nepal and the United Arab Emirates in Group A.
