Justin Langer has been replaced as head coach of London Spirit’s men’s team by Andy Flower. The Spirit’s first and only season under Langer ended in seventh place out of eight.
After five years with the team, Andy Flower departs from the Trent Rockets. For those who don’t know, earlier in the week, MCC and the “Tech Titans,” a group of wealthy individuals that included the CEOs of Google, Microsoft, YouTube, and Adobe, took over the Spirit’s operations. As a joint venture, they intend to operate the franchise.
At the Spirit, Flower will meet up with Mo Bobat, the Director of Cricket. The pair is notable for having led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their first IPL championship in 2025. Bobat said he and Andy Flower were thrilled to work together to use our knowledge for the Spirit’s benefit.
“We are thrilled to have been able to hire Andy Flower as our men’s head coach. In the past, Andy and I have had a great working relationship, and as we embark on this new and exciting chapter for the team, I’m looking forward to creating something unique with him at London Spirit,” Bobat said, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Additionally, Andy Flower conveyed his feelings about being given another chance to collaborate with Bobat.
Being a member of a place and company that is so legendary is truly an honour. Flower said, “I’m also excited to be working with Mo again and for the first time with both MCC and the Tech Titans.”
The Spirit won the Women’s Hundred in 2024, which speaks to their overall performance in the competition. They have, however, continuously performed poorly in the men’s category. Of the 38 games the men’s team has played, only 12 have been victories. After Eoin Morgan guided them to the knockout stage in 2022, five of those occurred. Only then did they make it to the knockout stages.
