Ireland are presently in England, competing in the ODI series against Bangladesh and preparing for the series’ third and final match as part of their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League campaign. On Sunday, May 14, the match began at the County Cricket Ground in Chelmsford. On June 1, Ireland and England will play a test match at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. Andrew Balbirnie, the captain of Ireland, stated that the team is excited to play one of the best teams in the world, England, in a Test match at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
“It’s very thrilling for those of us who have never played at Lord’s, but it’s also a special occasion in the English cricket calendar, let alone our own. Consequently, we are extremely fortunate and privileged to be able to play there, as Balbirine was quoted by ICC as saying.
Andrew Balbirnie continued by stating that Ireland is cognizant of the type of cricket England is playing and that it is incredible to observe. He hopes that his team will perform well and finish as close to England as possible.
“We are aware that the type of cricket England plays is a sight to behold, so it will be exciting to face them and find our own method to compete. He added, “Hopefully, we can play good cricket and match them as best we can.”

Balbirnie also stated that the team’s primary concentration is on the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe and the T20 qualifier. If Ireland wins the Europe Regional Final in Scotland later this year, they will automatically qualify for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in 2024. Ireland has one more opportunity to qualify for direct entry to both World Cups (T20 and ODI) by finishing in the top two of both ICC competitions (T20 and ODI qualifiers).
“I don’t want to look too far ahead, but the 50-over qualifier and T20 qualifier after Zimbabwe are the two most important events on our calendar right now,” he added.
