Andre Russell said of his devotion to fitness after making a fantastical return, "I'll be looking like a UFC fighter."
Andre Russell secured victory for the West Indies against England in Thursday’s Twenty20 International decider in Trinidad, capping off an exciting return series for the side following a two-year break from international cricket. After being out of action since the 2021 T20 World Cup, the dynamic all-rounder made a big impression with the bat and the ball with some outstanding performances.

Andre Russell demonstrated his skill as a death-over specialist and had an excellent strike rate of 169.35 with the bat. Russell was the West Indies’ top wicket-taker in the series. “It means a lot, to be honest, getting the call-up to come back and to join the West Indies team,” he said, expressing his happiness over the series victory and his return. I’ve been working for TNT Sports for the past two years while I wait to get called up.

Andre Russell said that coach Daren Sammy had given him support and emphasized the series victory, comparing it to a great championship win. “The coach has given me a lot of support. I’m overjoyed. The series triumph means so much to me that I feel like I’ve won a great, enormous championship,” he continued.

Andre Russell has difficulties traveling to the Caribbean after competing in the Abu Dhabi T10 because of the time change. Considering the effects of the lengthy travel, he revealed,

“I arrived from Abu Dhabi, where there is a significant time difference. I made an effort to stay up as late as possible before my flight back to Barbados in order to ensure that I would receive enough sleep and be ready for the game.”

Russell feels hopeful about his upcoming contributions in spite of the obstacles. He reaffirmed his dedication to fitness and promised to show up in peak shape for the T20 World Cup in June.

“I’ll be more physically fit and, to be honest, I’ll look like a UFC fighter. This is such a meaningful series win. It makes me want to challenge myself,” he continued.

Russell, who has matches in the ILT20 and IPL early in the next year, highlighted the benefits of playing cricket all the time for his physical condition.

“It’s wonderful because I have a lot more cricket to play. Your body is active when you play competitive cricket and aren’t just sitting around waiting for the World Cup to happen. He declared firmly, “We are definitely going to give some teams a good, good run for their money in the World Cup,” indicating the West Indies’ intention to push other teams in the impending international cricket showcase.
