Andre Russell Backs Sunil Narine for T20 World Cup

In the current Indian Premier League 2024, Sunil Narine is having a blast in the middle with the bat and the ball. The Kolkata Knight Riders have given him the responsibility of opening the innings, and the club is benefiting from the change as he has scored 482 runs. He has already claimed 16 wickets with the ball. However, the players on his national team have been pressuring the former West Indies star to come out of retirement for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The West Indies will share hosting duties for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which is set to begin on June 2. It makes sense that Narine, who has participated in a lot of domestic cricket, is a valuable member of the team. Andre Russell, a prominent player from the West Indies, has convinced the 35-year-old to come out of retirement specifically for the World Cup. However, the seasoned player is still determined to give up on international cricket.

“I firmly believe that Sunil Narine should participate in the T20 World Cup.

I had been attempting to get inside his thoughts before to the squad announcement. Rutherford and I spoke to him nonstop for over two weeks, asking him to please give it his all during the World Cup before retiring and doing anything else he wanted to. “I believe he has made a choice, and I accept that choice as well. Russell, cited by Republic, stated, “The whole West Indies will be happy if he could change the decision.”

West Indies will take advantage of home conditions in 2024 for the T20 World Cup. The T20 World Cup has been won twice thus far by the West Indies. In 2012, they were declared champions for the first time. They went on to win the trophy a second time in 2016 after a four-year break. In 2016, Carlos Brathwaite’s squad won the championship after he hit five sixes off Ben Stokes. Rovman Powell is in charge of the team for the most recent iteration.
