Anamul Haque Bijoy has been cleared by the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Event Technical Committee to replace Shakib Al Hasan in the Bangladeshi team.
Shakib was forced to withdraw from yesterday’s (6 November) Bangladesh vs. Sri Lanka match due to a fractured left index finger.

Anamul Haque, who has played 45 ODIs, was picked as a replacement.

During the match against Sri Lanka, Shakib Al Hasan was struck on the finger and was subsequently transferred to New Delhi for scans. His index finger fracture was confirmed by an X-ray. Speaking further about his injury, Bayjedul Islam Khan, the National Team Physio, stated that the all-rounder will require a minimum of three to four weeks to recuperate. Notably, Bangladesh has already been eliminated from the ICC competition following a run of defeats, so Shakib will miss his team’s final World Cup league stage encounter.

Early in his innings, Shakib took a blow to his left index finger, but he batted anyway, using painkillers and supporting tape. Following the match, he had an emergency X-ray in Delhi, which verified the left PIP joint fracture. Three to four weeks is the estimated time of recovery. According to Bayjedul, he would start his rehabilitation in Bangladesh today, the International Cricket Council (ICC) was informed.

Shakib Al Hasan in the middle of controversy following Angelo Mathews’ time-out dismissal

When the Bangladeshi all-rounder made an appeal against Angelo Mathews during their match against Sri Lanka, he found himself embroiled in a great deal of controversy. After his helmet strap was loosened, Mathews took a moment to check his physical safety and appeared completely taken aback when he was signaled out.

The captain of Bangladesh was asked if he would like to revoke his appeal because it would damage the “spirit of cricket,” but the all-round player refused to back down and faced harsh criticism from cricket enthusiasts and experts worldwide.
